Trey Thompkins has yet to debut with Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. Despite the delay, he is sticking around for at least one more month, as reported by Meridian Sport and confirmed by the Belgrade club.
Penning a deal with the Belgrade outfit one month ago, his contract includes an option for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.
“Thompkins has started training individually on specific moves. The next step is the full individual training, then work with the team, and five-on-five. After that, he’ll be able to play games. He is currently in the final phase of rehabilitation,” head coach Giannis Sfairopoulos updated the status of the former EuroLeague champion.
Several more players are ruled out for Round 28 of the EuroLeague Regular Season. Nikola Topic (knee) and Milos Teodosic (wrist) remain sidelined. Also, Dejan Davidovac was excused after the birth of his first child and Dalibor Ilic is dealing with a virus. Eleven players will make the trip, heading to the meeting with AS Monaco in Salle Gaston Medecin on Thursday.
The focus of the next game is on La Roca Team star Mike James vying to become the all-time leading scorer in the modern history of the EuroLeague. He needs 12 points.
“He is one of the best to have ever played in Europe. I remember when he started in Greece, in my former team Kolossos. Even then, it was evident that he would do great things in the future,” mentioned Sfairopoulos, “I have great respect for him, and I wish him good luck.”
