Real Madrid legend Jaycee Carroll explained how easy it was for him to sign multiple contract extensions with the Spanish powerhouse throughout his career without even considering other options.
“I re-upped before my contracts were even over,” Carroll said during the latest episode of Eurohoops’ EurohooPOD with Antonis Stroggylakis and Cesare Milanti. “I was coming home for summer and I remember I was sitting on the dirt at my farm. It was 45 degrees outside. I was sweating. And I’d call my agent and say: ‘Hey, ask Madrid if they want to add another year.’ And usually, they’d get back at me within a week: ‘Yeah they want to add another year.'”
“Negotiations were as simple as they go. ‘They want to offer you this.’ And I go: ‘OK’.”
Carroll spend 10 years with Real Madrid from 2011 to 2021. He won two EuroLeague championships in 2015 and 2018 along with several domestic trophies while retiring as the non-Spanish player with the most appearances in the history of the club.
“I knew where I wanted to be,” Carroll added. “I didn’t want to go anywhere else… I never looked for greener pastures and I never chased what maybe could’ve been more money. I was happy where I was, I wanted to stay there for a long time and I was able to do it.”
