March 7th, 2024, was a historic day for the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and will be remembered by the inauguration of Mike James as the new All-time best scorer of the competition.
The US guard topped Vassilis Spanoulis’ record of 4455 points in a match against Crvena Zvezda, but basketball is more than just numbers, so the question arises: Who is the best scorer?
On one side, James is averaging 16.5 points and 4.5 assists in 271 EuroLeague games, and on the other, Spanoulis logged 12.4 points and 4.5 assists on average in his 358 appearances.
Shooting percentages are interestingly very similar, with the Monaco star having 49.5% for two and 33.1% for three, while the former Olympiacos and Panathinaikos player also averaged 49.5% for two and 32.1% from beyond the arc. But once again, it’s not just about the numbers.
Is the 33-year-old American the top player who has ever played in Europe? How does he compare to Spanoulis, a EuroLeague legend, and what makes a player the best of all time?
