With the arrival of Sarunas Jasikevicius in Istanbul, Fenerbahce turned the tables and established itself as a likely EuroLeague Final Four candidate, climbing up the standings.
During an interview with Spor Arena, Marko Guduric praised what the Lithuanian coach brought to the team. “Saras is improving and evolving, he’s his own coach. He tries to come up with new ideas every day”, he first said about the current Fenerbahce head coach.
When asked if he could one day achieve the same success as Zeljko Obradovic, he replied with no doubts. “One hundred percent, I’m sure. He is already one of the best coaches at Fenerbahçe and in his own career, but the results will show at the end of his career that he is among the best”, the Serbian added.
Pointing at the EuroLeague Final Four in Berlin, Marko Guduric is eager to reach them. “That’s the ultimate goal. That’s why we play. This was our goal at the beginning of the season. Last year the team was new, this is our second year together. We changed the coach, but I think we reacted well and quickly. We are playing very well now”, he addressed.
“The schedule is not easy, there are many teams close to each other. If you lose one game, you can drop from third to seventh. hope we get the home-court advantage. This is really important. If we play at home as we have done throughout the season, we can surely go to the Final Four”, Marko Guduric, who has been averaging 8.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, then added.
Loving Fenerbahce is a Serbian affair
The former Memphis Grizzlies guard also touched on his countryman and former Fenerbahce player Bogdan Bogdnaovic’s love for the yellow-and-blue powerhouse. “Maybe he can come to Istanbul for the playoffs, hopefully for the Final Four. He loves Fenerbahce, he always talks about it. He has great memories here, this is his second home”, he said about the current Atlanta Hawks‘ shooter.
Another Serbian athlete is Dusan Tadic, who joined the football yellow-and-blue representative last summer. “He is a very good guy. It was my pleasure to meet him. He is doing an outstanding job at Fenerbahce this year, I hope he can bring the championship back to Fener“, he said about his countryman.
Currently 6th in the EuroLeague with a 19-12 record, Fenerbahce is fighting for the home-court advantage in the playoffs. In the last three remaining games of the season, they will face ALBA Berlin and Anadolu Efes in consecutive fashion at home, traveling to Piraeus to finish the season.
