Former Croatian player Dino Radja played two seasons for Panathinaikos from 1997 to 1999, leading them back to titles in Greece after the dominance of Aris and Olympiacos.
During his two-year stay at OAKA, Radja had an incident with Dimitris Giannakopoulos. There was a rumored fight, with Radja punching the current owner of the Athens team.
That has never been confirmed in the past. However, the Croatian states it in his interview with Meridian Sport, apologizing for his act:
“I hit the boss’s son. The current president of Panathinaikos. I’m sorry…” Radja said.
Still, he has fond memories of his time in Athens.
“I wanted to fight for titles. And I don’t regret it. Because of Greece… I fell in love with Greece. I wouldn’t have known what I was missing if I hadn’t gone there. My time in Athens is priceless. They are true Balkans. Similar to us Dalmatians in terms of crazy wire mentality, they really love basketball,” Dino Radja concluded.
