Greek tactician Giannis Sfairopoulos stars in the second installment of the Euroleague Masterminds series.
From launching his coaching career with Apollon Kalamarias to reaching the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, he is currently in charge of Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet. Further experience in Europe’s premier club continental competition stretches from Maccabi Tel Aviv between 2018 and 2022, and Olympiacos from 2014 to 2018. Other jobs are highlighted by working for Greece’s senior national team as an assistant.
According to his coaching philosophy, players must be committed to relentless effort.
Per the press release: “Euroleague Masterminds presented by Motorola talks to five Turkish Airlines EuroLeague head coaches about philosophy and tactics.
After Zeljko Obradovic opened the series, Ioannis Sfairopoulos, now on the bench of Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade, explains some of the foundations and plays that have helped him win over 140 EuroLeague games with three different clubs and reach the championship game twice.
“First, work hard. Second, improve yourself. You need to always be creative and find the ways that you will be better as a coach. And third, be patient. If you work hard and you improve yourself and do a good job, sooner or later you will find your opportunity to go to the next level.”
Still ahead on Euroleague Masterminds presented by Motorola, four-time EuroLeague winner Ettore Messina of EA7 Emporio Armani Milan, two-time champion Pablo Laso of FC Bayern Munich and four-time Final Four qualifier Sarunas Jasikevicius of Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul all offer their expert opinions.”
