After hurting his right ankle on Thursday, Arnas Butkevicius was sidelined for at least a few weeks.
Zalgiris updated his status on Saturday.
Per the press release: “Zalgiris Kaunas forward Arnas Butkevicius has suffered an ankle injury and will have to miss some time without basketball.
Butkevicius suffered the injury during the second quarter of the EuroLeague match against AS Monaco on the road. Zalgiris player left the court with the help of his teammates and was unable to continue the game.
After returning to Kaunas, it was decided to give the forward’s ankle a couple of weeks of rest. Once the swelling subsides, Butkevicius will undergo further tests to determine the further course of his treatment.”
Butkevicius, 31, will miss the last game of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season, against Real Madrid in Zalgirio Arena on Thursday. Limited to 22 appearances in the 2023-24 campaign by previous injuries, he averaged 5.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.1 blocks per contest. He upped his total of games played to 69, counting the early exit versus Monaco.
After a comeback bid falling short in Salle Gaston Medecin, the team coached by Andrea Trinchieri was knocked out of contention for a spot in the Play-Ins. Focusing on Lithuania’s Betsafe LKL, a 21-2 W-L tally leads the domestic league table, two games ahead of second-placed Rytas, entering crunch time in the Regular Season. Lifting a domestic trophy in February, Zalgiris won Citadele KMT.
