Losing to Olympiacos in this year’s latest EuroLeague Regular Season appointment, Fenerbahce couldn’t clinch the 5th spot in the standings to go up against Barcelona in the Playoffs. Ending in 6th position, they will go up against AS Monaco in the best-of-five series ahead of the Final Four.
Stopping by with Antonis Stroggylakis in the Eurohoops Show from the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Piraeus, Nigel Hayes-Davis talked about the yellow-and-blue side’s next clash against Mike James and teammates, who ended in 3rd position.
Commenting on their next opponent, he kept it calm. “The phrase is “Winners worry about winners and themselves, and losers worry about losers. We don’t want to be a team that’s like “We want to play them, or them”. We want to focus on Fenerbahce“, he first commented.
“Our biggest takeaway is to make free throws. To lose a game by three points and miss seven free throws [14/21 at the line] is very tough to do, while also turnovers at the end. We had too many of those down the stretch and throughout the game. If we cleaned those up, we probably come out with the win”, he said on his team’s performance in Greece after scoring 21 points.
Then, he summed up the team’s recent lack of success. “We lost our last three EuroLeague games. It’s 0-0 now”, he said. “We love the support we have, we had some away games that felt like home games. But it starts with us, the twelve guys who are suited, and the five guys on the floor. We have to worry about that in the locker room to make sure we put up our best brand of basketball”, Nigel Hayes-Davis ended.
