After parting ways with T.J. Parker, LDLC ASVEL appointed Gianmarco Pozzecco, but quickly parted with him as well. Pierric Poupet emerged as the third choice, and after some positive results, the French club decided to keep him in the long term.
As officially confirmed by the club, Poupet has been given a two-year extension.
Under the young French coach, ASVEL remained undefeated at Astroballe in the domestic championship and achieved a solid 6-9 record in the EuroLeague, impressing club managers and shareholders and securing their confidence in his leadership.
“Pierric brought a lot of serenity from the first day he was in office. The players love playing for him, the fans love watching the team play, and our results have never been better in the EuroLeague since he’s been here. It was natural to continue the adventure with him; he is a coach of the future, with strong ideas and a very in-depth knowledge of basketball,” stated club president Tony Parker.
A former French player, Poupet joined ASVEL’s coaching staff at the beginning of the season, marking his first experience leading a team from the bench.
“I would like to thank all the club managers, Tony Parker, Gaetan Muller, and all the people who made this contract extension possible. I am proud to be part of a great organization that aims to be ambitious and will remain so. I am very happy that people trust me, and we will do everything to ensure that the end of the season is good,” Poupet said on the extension.
