After recently losing in the LKL Finals to Rytas Vilnius, Rolands Smits couldn’t leave Zalgiris Kaunas on a happy note. He indeed has signed a two-year contract with Anadolu Efes.
Moving to Turkey for the first time in his career, he spent the last two seasons with the Lithuanian representative in the EuroLeague. In the 2023-24 season, he averaged 10.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
Before moving to Kaunas, he only played in Spain as a professional. Starting in 2011 with Fuenlabrada, he stayed there until 2017 while moving around on loan. From 2018 to 2022, after another season on loan to his former team, he stayed in Barcelona.
The soon-to-be 29-year-old forward is set to play with his national team at home in the upcoming FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Riga. Latvia will first go up against Georgia and the Philippines in Group A, while Brazil, Cameroon, and Montenegro will battle each other in Group B.
