Starting the day with a banger, Panathinaikos‘ president Dimitris Giannakopoulos teased the arrival of Lorenzo Brown to the reigning EuroLeague champions, posting a photo of the soon-to-be former Maccabi Tel Aviv playmaker on his Instagram stories.
Recently coming off a victory in the Israeli championship, he averaged 13.2 points and 6.1 assists in the EuroLeague, being named into the competition’s Second Team. Maccabi didn’t advance to the Final Four by losing in Game 5 of the EuroLeague Playoffs to Panathinaikos.
According to Eurohoops sources, the current Spanish national team’s point guard and the Greek powerhouse have agreed on a three-year deal, with Maccabi Tel Aviv getting a €600.000 buyout. Lorenzo Brown’s contract with the Israeli team should have lasted until 2026.
Winning EuroBasket 2022, after missing last year’s 2023 FIBA World Cup with Spain he’s set to represent the national team in the upcoming Olympic Qualifying Tournament held in Valencia from 2-7 July. If Spain makes it to the Olympic Games, it will be the first participation for Lorenzo Brown.
He isn’t the only player rumored to leave the yellow-and-blue Israeli powerhouse, as Bonzie Colson is also rumored to leave Maccabi Tel Aviv. Wade Baldwin IV, instead, announced he played his last game with the team after winning the Israeli league against Hapoel Tel Aviv.
