After 21 long years spent on the courts of every basketball corner worldwide, Sergio “Chacho” Rodriguez has officially announced he won’t be playing anymore, entering another chapter of his life after a legendary career.
Weeks after winning the last trophy of his career, lifting the ACB title against UCAM Murcia, the 38-year-old playmaker shared on Instagram his thoughts after finishing his career. “Thank you for this incredible journey. The day has come, this is the moment in which I put an end to my sporting career”, he shared.
His legacy will always be linked to Real Madrid, with which he played from 2010 to 2016 before returning in 2022. With the legendary Spanish club, he won 3 ACB, 5 Copa del Rey, 5 Spanish Supercups, and 2 EuroLeague titles.
He was on top of Europe in the 2018-19 season as well with CSKA Moscow, where he played from 2017 to 2019. Sergio Rodriguez, who also spent three years in Italy with Milan, also managed to spend time in the US.
The 1986-born point guard, who debuted in 2003 with Estudiantes, played in the NBA until 2010 with the Portland Trail Blazers, the Sacramento Kings, and the New York Knicks. He returned to the league in the 2016-17 season, playing for Philadelphia.
With the Spanish national team, instead, he won the 2006 World Cup, and EuroBasket 2015. He got the silver medal at EuroBasket 2007 and at the 2012 Olympics in London; he also won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games of Rio 2016, and at EuroBasket 2013 and 2017.
