After already signing a EuroLeague rookie like Deividas Sirvydis, Zalgiris Kaunas found another hidden gem in the BKT EuroCup market, agreeing to a 1+1 deal with Matt Mitchell.
“I am happy to have the opportunity to come to Zalgiris. I decided to come here to improve on the team led by coach Andrea Trinchieri and to win matches. Ultimately, the goal is to win championships, adding some to the trophy shelf of Zalgiris”, he first commented on the official club’s website.
The 25-year-old American forward is coming off his first and only season played in Turkey. With Besiktas, he reached the BKT EuroCup Semi-Finals, eventually losing to JL Bourg-en-Bresse, and averaged 12.5 points and 4.9 rebounds throughout the whole continental campaign.
Coming overseas with SIG Strasbourg after ending his college parenthesis with San Diego State, he emerged as one of the most interesting players to watch in both the LNB and the Basketball Champions League. Over five BCL appearances in 2022-23, he erupted for 20.2 points per game.
He will be coached by Andrea Trinchieri, but it’s not the first time he has found an Italian on his team’s bench. For a short stint in the 2021-22 season, he was coached by Luca Banchi in SIG Strasbourg.
