Following one season as the head coach of FC Bayern Munich in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and domestic competitions in Germany, Pablo Laso left the club.
Bayern announced his departure on Friday morning citing as the main issue “family reasons”. However, per Eurohoops sources there’s not any family issue that drove Laso or Bayern to this decision.
Per the press release: “FC Bayern Basketball has learned through a short-term communication of an important staff change: Head coach Pablo Laso has informed the Club that due to family reasons he is forced to leave the German champion already after his first season in Munich. The club followed the request of the Spanish two-time Euroleague champion to terminate his contract, which was originally expiring in June 2025. Laso (56) informed the organization of his will last weekend.
Personal decision after successful season
“Pablo’s personal decision came unexpectedly for us, but we much respect him as coach and personality and now only can thank him big time for his work and great effort during the last, successful season”, stated FCBB CEO Marko Pesic, “We wish Pablo nothing else than the very best for his future and he will always be connected with our organization not only because of double we won.”
Laso started his work at BWM Park one year ago. It has been the first head coaching job abroad for the longtime successful coach of Real Madrid. With him leading the team Bayern won the BBL Cup last February, followed by winning the club’s sixth national championship two weeks ago for the double. Under his guidance, the team had finished the regular season in BBL clinching the first seed, before the EuroLeague came to an end last April with a 13:21 record.
FC Bayern Basketball will inform about the next steps in the near future.”
