London native Admiral Schofield is on his way to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne.
The former Tennessee standout with NBA experience through the Orlando Magic and Washington Wizards inked a one-year contract, the French club announced on Friday.
Selected with the 42nd pick of the 2019 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, his rights were immediately traded to the Wizards. One year later, he was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder but was waived at the end of the preseason. In the next three seasons, he played for the Magic. Overall, he made his way to 131 appearances in the league based in North America.
His minor role with the Magic, supported by numerous short-term contracts, extended to 23 games played in the 2023-24 Regular Season. Lasting 3.7 minutes per game, Schofield tallied 1.1 points, 0.7 rebounds, and 0.3 assists per contest. Besides limited action on the court, his veteran leadership was helpful for the young Magic to return to the Playoffs after missing the postseason through the previous three years.
He emerged as the second summer signing for the team controlled by NBA legend Tony Parker and coached by Pierric Poupet, following 25-year-old Neal Sako. Charles Kahudi, Joffrey Lauvergne, and David Lighty are also under contract for the 2024-25 season.
Last season, ASVEL banked a 9-25 record and ranked 17th out of 18 teams in the EuroLeague. The domestic campaign was ended by Paris in the Semifinals of France’s Betclic Elite Playoffs.
