Growing up in Real Madrid’s youth system, it looks like Juan Núñez will be joining the eternal rivals of the Spanish capital’s powerhouse. Barcelona, according to Marca, is set to pay a 400k-euro buyout to Real Madrid and will give a 1.5 million euro salary to the 2004-born.
The promising Spanish playmaker, recently removed from the national team’s 12-man roster for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris 2024, has played on loan in Germany for the past two years.
With ratiopharm Ulm, not only did he win the 2022-23 Bundesliga, but he also averaged 9.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game in the past two BKT EuroCup seasons.
Selected with the 36th overall pick by the Indiana Pacers, he was traded immediately after to the San Antonio Spurs, but he won’t play next to Victor Wembanyama in the 2024-25 season. The Texan franchise, that didn’t even include him in the team’s roster for the Summer League, will stash him.
During the press conference in which Joan Penarroya was presented as Barcelona’s newest head coach, Juan Carlos Navarro expressed his interest in the 2004-born playmaker. “I would like to have a point guard and we have liked Juan Núñez for a long time. Every year we bet on a young player for the future, and he would fit in very well with the team”, he said.
