Olek Balcerowski staying with Panathinaikos

Olek Balcerowski got a second chance with Panathinaikos.

The 2024 EuroLeague champions decided not to use the opt-out clause in his deal, according to SDNA, meaning he’ll remain with the Athens team for another year.

It seemed that the Pole could continue his career with Unicaja, but now it looks like he’ll continue fighting for his place in Ergin Ataman’s team.

The two-time EuroCup Rising Star played 24 EuroLeague games last season, averaging less than eight minutes on the court, with 2.8 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.

He had a bigger role in the Greek League, where he appeared in 21 games, averaging 6.3 points and 4.3 rebounds.

By keeping Balcerowski, Panathinaikos wanted security in the center position after not getting their primary targets, Dario Saric and Daniel Theis, who found new deals to stay in the NBA.

Saric signed with the Denver Nuggets, while the 2024 FIBA World Cup winner will join the New Orleans Pelicans for his eighth NBA season.
