Every love story, at a certain point, comes to an end. Johannes Thiemann and ALBA Berlin’s one finished today, after that the German power forward played 359 games over six years with the team.

Over this period of time, he won three German championships first with Aito Garcia Reneses and then with Israel Gonzalez, receiving the Bundesliga Finals MVP in the 2021-22 season.

“It was a really difficult decision to leave ALBA. Because I not only found many friends in Berlin but also a home. I am very grateful to the entire ALBA family for their support and unconditional support – whether victory or defeat, you were always there”, he said goodbye in an official statement.

ALBA Berlin’s sports director Himer Ojeda also commented on his departure. “He has contributed a lot to our culture in recent years and shaped ALBA’s history – both in terms of sport and character. But first and foremost, we are incredibly proud of him and his development with us”, he shared.

After winning the bronze medal at FIBA EuroBasket 2022 and the gold medal at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, the 30-year-old power forward was included by Gordon Herbert on Germany’s 12-man roster for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
