Partizan is completely renovating the team for the upcoming 2024/25 season, and the newest addition to Zeljko Obradovic‘s team could be one of the breakthrough stars of the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
As Meridian Sport reports, the Belgrade team is negotiating with South Sudanese national team player Carlik Jones.
Jones emerged at the World Cup in Manila as one of the South Sudanese leaders, averaging an impressive stat line of 20.4 points, 10.6 assists, and 4.6 rebounds in a historic achievement for the African country, which secured a place at the upcoming Paris Olympics.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, the American point guard received a South Sudan passport before the World Cup and went on to be the tournament’s assists leader.
After playing college basketball for Radford and Louisville, he started his pro career in the NBA G League and had brief stints in the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, and Chicago Bulls, recording a total of 12 regular season appearances.
In the wake of his terrific performances last summer in the Philippines, he joined the Zhejiang Golden Bulls in China and averaged 16.6 points with 4.9 assists and 4.2 rebounds in 37 appearances.
He is now poised to join Partizan and debut in European and EuroLeague basketball, alongside guards like Iffe Lundberg, Frank Ntilikina, and Vanja Marinkovic, who were officially confirmed as Belgrade club’s new signings.
There were reports about many other signings like Arijan Lakic, Mario Nakic, Sterling Brown, Isaiah Mike, Tyrique Jones, Brandon Davies, and Isaac Bonga. However, Partizan has yet to confirm them.
