AS Monaco center Donatas Motiejunas extended his contract with the team for two more seasons, the club announced. The Lithuanian big man has been playing for the team since 2021.
“I am extremely happy to stay in Monaco to try to achieve this goal [of winning the EuroLeague], to try to realize this dream,” Motiejunas said per Monaco. “You know how hard I worked on the court last year, how hard I live every day, I love our fans. I love the city of Monaco. I am very happy. For me, Monaco is my second home.”
Motiejunas has been a key player in Monaco establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the EuroLeague. He joined the Monegasque side in 2021 for the team’s debut EuroLeague season which ended with a first-time playoff appearance. The next year, Monaco made the Final Four and won third place in the Kaunas tournament.
In 2023-24, Motiejunas averaged 8.8 points and 3.4 rebounds in 17:45 minutes over 39 EuroLeague appearances. He had 13.2 points and 3.2 rebounds in the playoffs where Monaco lost in a five-game series to Fenerbahce Beko.
