Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos has generated a buzz in the basketball scene by revealing his intention to offer head coach Ergin Ataman a new contract for at least 4-5 years. His goal is for Panathinaikos to secure five consecutive EuroLeague titles and eventually surpass Real Madrid’s 11 titles.

Eurohoops has investigated Giannakopoulos’ intentions, and our information indicates that the meeting with Ataman will take place on Monday or Tuesday of next week.

While no agreement has been reached yet, Panathinaikos has communicated to the three-time EuroLeague champion their intention for a new contract, likely extending until 2028.

Currently, the two sides have an agreement for one more year, with Ataman’s contract worth $1.2 million.

At this stage, discussions are preliminary, reflecting Panathinaikos’ desires as expressed by Giannakopoulos in his recent post.

Thus, the financial aspect has not yet been addressed. Still, for an early extension of such length to proceed, Ataman is expected to be offered a significant salary increase.
