Virtus Bologna denies the reports about ownership sale

Israeli businessman and entrepreneur Ori Allon has an agreement in principle to become the new majority shareholder of Virtus Bologna, Sports 5 reports. Allon was previously the owner of Israeli basketball club Hapoel Jerusalem.

According to Sport 5, Allon and his partners will acquire 55 percent of the Virtus shares that have belonged to Segafredo Zanetti company since 2016. He’s looking to officially finalize the deal as soon as possible in order to become involved first-hand in team matters ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Guy Harel, former CEO and general manager of Hapoel Jerusalem with Allon at the helm, is also expected to join Virtus at a significant front office position. The Italian club will likely undergo several other major changes under its new onwership.

Virtus Bologna denies sale

After the reports about the sale of shares, Virtus Bologna issued an official statement.

Virtus Pallacanestro Bologna, following reports from some national and international media, announces that there is no ongoing sale of shares and no negotiations are currently underway,” as officially stated.
