Real Madrid officially re-signed captain Sergio Llull for the next season on Thursday.

Llull, 36, was expected to stay with Los Blancos for a 19th consecutive season.

Per the press release: Real Madrid C. F. and our captain Sergio Llull have agreed an extension to his contract, linking him to the club for next season.

Sergio Llull arrived at Real Madrid at just 19 years of age, back in 2007, and he has gone on to become one of our greatest legends. In his 18 seasons playing in our colours, he’s won 28 trophies: 3 European Cups, 1 Intercontinental Cup, 8 Leagues, 7 Copas del Rey and 9 Spanish Super Cups.

Sergio Llull, a key part of one of the club’s most successful periods, will now play his 19th season for Real Madrid, becoming the longest-serving player in our history.

Our captain is also the club’s all-time record appearance-maker, having played a total of 1,083 games, a legendary figure that will continue to rise.”

Nearing his retirement, the experienced combo guard is refusing to slow down. In the 2023-24 edition of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, he tallied 7.9 points per contest over 33 appearances, including two starts. He upped his total of games played to 407. In Spain’s Liga Endesa, he produced 8.1 points per contest.

Mario Hezonja, Dzanan Musa, Walter Tavares, and head coach Chus Mateo penned contract extensions earlier in the offseason. Andres Feliz and Xavier Rathan-Mayes are confirmed new additions to the squad.
