After eight years abroad with Baskonia, CSKA Moscow, and Milano, Johannes Voigtmann made his anticipated return to Germany, signing a three-year contract with Bayern Munich.
“I will now be part of what I believe is a very exciting project at Bayern, with great potential, a new arena, a new coach, and many players I have already played with and enjoy playing with. There is also a close family connection to Munich. It all fits perfectly”, he first said to the club’s official website.
Playing in Milano in the last two seasons, he won two Italian league championships under head coach Ettore Messina. In the 2023-24 EuroLeague campaign, next to his countryman Maodo Lo, he promised 7.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.
In the recent Olympic Games in Paris, the 31-year-old forward averaged 4.5 points and 4.3 rebounds, unable to make a huge impact on the German national team’s success.
At Bayern Munich, he will be coached by a familiar face, as Gordon Herbert officially took over the Bavarian side following the Olympic cycle with the national team. Together, they won the bronze medal at EuroBasket 2022, the gold medal at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, and finished 4th in Paris.
