Baskonia is entering the 2024/25 season with Pablo Laso as the new coach. A significant number of players have left the club, while some new faces have joined the team in Vitoria.

The experienced Vitorian tactician is starting a new chapter, and captain Tadas Sedekerskis shared his expectations ahead of the new challenges.

I see young people eager to work and a lot of people who want to prove themselves. We are a young team with many familiar faces from last year. The continuity of our most important players, Markus and Chima, is going to help us a lot in this regard; they are going to be even better than last year. Then, our new coach, Pablo Laso, knows the ACB, the EuroLeague, the city, and what the people want very well, so we are all very excited,” Sedekerskis said, per Noticias de Alava.

He explained his reaction when he found out that Pablo Laso was taking over the team.

I was very surprised by Laso’s signing. I was in Puerto Rico, and when I woke up, there was a big time difference. My father told me to read the news. It was like a shock; I wasn’t expecting it. There were a lot of names and rumors, but I never imagined it would be him. Every player would like to be coached by Pablo because of all the trophies he has won and everything he has achieved with Real Madrid.

Sedekerskis also touched on the disappointing 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in San Juan, where Lithuania lost in the final to the hosts Puerto Rico and missed another Olympics.

For a country like Lithuania, where basketball is a second religion, not being at the Games for eight years is a very serious thing. I have tried to forget this as soon as possible. It hurts because the Games are held every four years. Maybe my first Olympics will be when I am 30. We all have to improve and make sure this doesn’t happen again,” Tadas Sedekerskis concluded.
