Partizan Belgrade released a lengthy statement as a response after former player of the team James Nunnally made accusations against club president Ostoja Mijailovic for defamation. Nunnally also wrote that he wasn’t being paid on time during his 2-year stint with the team.

Here’s what Partizan’s statement says:

“After the announcement on the social network X by the former player of KK Partizan, James Nunnally, the club would like to highlight the relevant facts regarding the case that no one wanted.

After the end of the 2023-24 season, the coaching staff made a decision not to offer a new contract to the player. The decision of the sports department was to sign captain Vanja Marinković and Isaac Bonga. When it comes to the club’s financial obligations to the player, James Nunnally received all the money due to him immediately after the end of the season. In the previous two seasons, he also received the corresponding premiums on which all taxes were calculated and paid.”

Partizan also addressed the fight between Nunnally and Crvena Zvezda forward Stefan Lazarevic that took place during the ABA League Finals. The Serbian club mentions that it was that incident that led coach Zeljko Obradovic to decide that the team should continue without the player.

“The incident that marked the end of James’ involvement in Partizan happened at a very important moment for the club. It is unnecessary to underline again how much nobody was happy about the incident and the fight in which the then-Partizan player participated with the player of the rival team and on that occasion caused him minor injuries. After that unfortunate event, the coach of Partizan Mozzart Bet Željko Obradović decided that the player would leave the team and not be part of the team in the following games. No one wanted the aforementioned incident, least of all KK Partizan, which once again expresses its regret for that event. On the other hand, the club understands the emotions and certain frustrations of its former player on that occasion, but the internal rules of KK Partizan must be respected. Simply put, no one is bigger and more important than the Club itself. Once again, KK Partizan Mozzart Bet would like to thank James Nunnally for all the good moments he gave to the Club and the fans. Hereby, KK Partizan once again sincerely wishes James Nunnally good luck and success on a professional and personal level.”
