Gibson the alternative

Panathinaikos has permanently decided to sign a player. The case of Papanikolaou, that also had to do with empowering the core of the Greens’ roster with Greek players, didn’t came into fruition, so now the team aims to sign a guard, in order to fill certain gaps in the backcourt.

Panathinaikos is interested in Jordan Farmar, who was released by Maccabi, and is currently in the USA. He is the top priority for the Greek club. Why is that? It’s simple. The team prefers, if possible, to sign a player really soon for him to start training as fast as possible, in order to help Sasa Djordjevic in the upcoming derby against Olympiacos, on the 25th of January.

If that does not happen, for reasons that have to do with sign the player at the proper timing, then one of the players, that Panathinaikos seriously checks, is the 29 year old guard Jonathan Gibson that plays in China with Qingdao Double Star.

At 185 cm, Gibson plays in both positions of the perimeter. The main characteristic of his game is his scoring efficiency. His team has already lost the train to the CBA playoffs, so he is obligated to stay at the team only until the 5th of February. If he becomes the chosen one of Panathinaikos, he can be in Athens within 3-4 days. Gibson himself is positive towards the idea of signing for Panathinaikos and play in Euroleague.

Panathinaikos has set eyes on other players as well, in case the club won’t be able to sign someone that will be able to make it for the game against Olympiacos. If that happens, there is a bigger time-frame in which the Greens can sign a player, since the deadline of Euroleague ends at the February the 24st.
