While Panathinaikos is currently training in Slovenia to prepare for the upcoming EuroLeague season, aiming to repeat the success of Berlin in back-to-back fashion, Omer Yurtseven landed in Athens.
The Turkish national team’s center is the latest arrival for Ergin Ataman’s team and released a statement to the team’s official website. “I am very happy to be part of the Panathinaikos family. Just a few months ago, I watched this team become EuroLeague champions, now to be here is very special”, he said.
Of course, being coached by his countryman was huge in his decision. “Ergin Ataman’s presence on the team is very important to me. He is a great coach, I had the chance to work with him on the national team before. I can’t wait to work with him again. We had a meeting shortly after signing the contract. He congratulated me and said that I deserved to play for the EuroLeague champions”, he added.
He will also share paths once more with Kostas Sloukas, with whom he already played in Fenerbahce. “I played with him in Fenerbahce. Of course, years have passed, I was just a kid at the time, but I know he is a great playmaker. I can’t wait to play with him again”, the 26-year-old center expressed.
Finally, he revealed his desire to go after the EuroLeague title again. “I am very excited to compete in the Panathinaikos jersey. I will do my best to help our team achieve its goals. I want to go to the Final Four together and win back-to-back EuroLeague championships”, Omer Yurtseven concluded.
