Just like Wade Baldwin IV, there was another guy who moved from Maccabi Tel Aviv to Fenerbahce: Bonzie Colson. Talking to the club’s official program 40+, he spoke about his decision.

“I was very excited because Fenerbahce wanted me. It wasn’t hard to decide because I thought I would fit into the system. Everyone knows how big a club Fenerbahçe is with its successes. The moment you step into the club, you see successes and trophies everywhere”, he said.

Talking about his first steps with the new roster, he expressed satisfaction. “The chemistry and the energy are. We are constantly asking questions, trying to understand and learn the system because we know very well what the expectation is of being at Fenerbahce. Saras [Jasikevicius] is also constantly motivating us and trying to push us to be better”, he also mentioned about his new head coach.

Continuing on the Lithuanian mastermind, he had nothing but good words. “I am constantly trying to learn his tactics in terms of offense and defense. He brings incredible energy and the energy he brings gives me energy. I believe we will give each other energy. I think I have established good bonds with both the team and him. I will work to be even better”, Bonzie Colson added.

Finally, he revealed what fans can expect from him on the court. “I do a little bit of everything. Whether it’s stealing the ball, whether it’s energy… I try to do whatever is necessary in every gane. I try to contribute not only what’s shown in the statistics, but also outside of that. In this way, I try to be compatible with the system. I give my all on the field”, he said.

Going only one victory away against Panathinaikos from the EuroLeague Final Four, Bonzie Colson was one of the protagonists in Maccabi Tel Aviv‘s tumultuous run in the 2023-24 season. He put up 12.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in his second season with the Israeli side.

Fenerbahce won’t be the first Turkish team for Bonzie Colson, as he already spent time with Pinar Karsiyaka. In the 2021-22 Basketball Champions League campaign, he was one of the best players on the red-and-green side, averaging 15.0 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
