Fragiskos Alvertis was named European Ambassador of Panathinaikos Aktor on Friday.
“Panathinaikos BC AKTOR announces that Fragiskos Alvertis returns “home” as the Club’s European Ambassador!”
Alvertis, 50, played for the Greens between 1990 and 2009. Staying with the team following his retirement, he held several positions, including a brief stint as the head coach in 2014. In 2022, he left the team based in Athens.
Becoming a team legend, his playing days featured 25 titles, including five EuroLeague championships, 1996, 2000, 2002, 2007, and 2009.

“Everybody knows my attachment to Panathinaikos and my love for the team. It goes without saying that I am happy to be back,” mentioned the Athens native per the press release.
“I never needed more than one minute with him,” he added referring to talks with team owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos.
Many more familiar faces en route to the next installments of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and domestic competions.
“It is important for me to reunite with people I know very well and have worked with for several years, such as Sani [Becirovic], Dimitris [Kontos], Savvas [Aronis], and many more guys on the team. Unfortunately, Paris [Dermanis], our big loss, will not be there,” mentioned Alvertis.
“Coach [Ergin] Ataman, the rest of the coaching staff, the players, and the front office, they all did an amazing job,” he described Panathinaikos topping the EuroLeague and Greece’s Stoiximan Basket League last season, “The team has the opportunity to pick up from where it left off.”
