A few weeks after being announced as a new player of Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv, Daryl Macon failed the necessary medicals to complete the transfer. However, despite the initial information, there’s no imminent decision about his future with the team.
On the contrary, Maccabi seems to be willing to wait for him. According to the side of Macon: “It is true that the player is behind in his recovery due to complications, but the team and his representation are willing to find a solution to continue the cooperation when he is ready.”
Macon, 28, is dealing with an ACL injury. He was hurt last season, playing for the Shenzhen Leopards in the Chinese Basketball Association, CBA.
Despite the setback, Maccabi announced his addition on August 24. However, the American combo guard eventually fell shy of completing his move to the Israeli giant.
A veteran of 31 appearances with Panathinaikos in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, the former Arkansas standout focused his career overseas, following 12 games played in the NBA between the Dallas Mavericks in the 2018-19 Regular Season and the Miami Heat the next season. Besides the Greens and attached EuroLeague experience, he played for AEK and Galatasaray in the Basketball Champions League.
Reinforcing the backcourt on Tuesday, 27-year-old Kobi Simmons was placed on the preseason roster for the team coached by Oded Kattash with his contract featuring a team option for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.
Earlier in a rebuilding offseason, Wenyen Gabriel, Jaylen Hoard, Rokas Jokubaitis, Jordan Loyd, and Levi Randolph were signed. Also, John DiBartolomeo, Tamir Blatt, Jake Cohen, Rafi Menco, Jasiel Rivero, and Roman Rorkin penned contract extensions, while Will Rayman returned from a loan assignment at Saint Quentin. Departures included Wade Baldwin IV, Lorenzo Brown, Bonzie Colson, and Josh Nebo moving their talents to EuroLeague rivals.
