Thanks to a strong defensive display in the second half, Olympiacos Piraeus defeated Virtus Bologna 78 – 66 to advance to the Final of the International Basketball Tournament Crete.
Alec Peters scored 16 points on 6-8 shots for Olympiacos while grabbing five rebounds. Sasha Vezenkov added 15 points, Moses Wright had 12 points and Tyler Dorsey contributed 12 points. Evan Fournier finished with five points and 2-7 shots in 17:42.
Five players scored in double figures for Virtus. Ante Zizic had 13 points and seven rebounds, Will Clyburn dropped 11 points plus five rebounds while Matthew Morgan had 11 points as well. Isaia Cordinier and Toko Shengelia completed the game with 10 points apiece.
Virtus was up 28 – 40 late in the second quarter but Olympiacos quickly recovered and took the lead early in the third period. It was a close battle until the last minute when Peters made some key plays to hand his team a double-digit advantage.
Olympiacos is playing vs. Fenerbahe Beko on Sunday after the latter beat Olimpia Milano. The latter will meet fellow Italian side Virtus.
