Among the many Europeans who came back from the NBA to the EuroLeague, Omer Yurtseven is surely somebody who found an already familiar atmosphere despite never playing before with Panathinaikos.
The reason stands in head coach Ergin Ataman, who has been working closely with him for quite some time now at the helm of the Turkish national team. Now, after delivering a 22-point performance with 8 rebounds against Bayern Munich in a friendly game, he touched on the latest weeks.
Impacting with a new environment hasn’t been tough for the 26-year-old center. “The team welcomed me with open arms from the first day. I would like to thank everyone on the team, especially coach [Ergin] Ataman. I feel like I am playing at home”, he first said when interviewed by COSMOTE TV.
“I am trying to get used to my new team and so far everything is going great. I don’t think I will have any trouble getting used to the EuroLeague rules after the NBA rules because I am a player who likes to play physically”, Omer Yurtseven followed about adjusting to the EuroLeague.
“We are completely focused on developing as a team. We are just getting to know each other, Ergin Ataman is doing a great job”, he said about his countryman, waiting to share the court with Cedi Osman too. “We want to get better every day. There is team chemistry from last year, and our ceiling is very high with the new additions to the squad”, he also commented.
Already playing with Fenerbahce in the past in the EuroLeague at a young age, he will return now to strengthen an already established center package with Mathias Lessort and Kostas Antetokounmpo. In his last NBA season with the Utah Jazz, he put up 4.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
