Just before the start of the season and after 18 years of service to Maccabi Tel Aviv, well-respected all over Europe General Manager Avi Even announced that he was leaving the Israeli club.
Even served Maccabi in many positions, even as the head coach when needed and he was the backbone of the club’s basketball operations.
The reasons behind his decision remain unclear and also the question marks on how Maccabi will re-organize their management. There are reports citing as one of the reasons for Even’s decision the difficulties that Maccabi had in recruiting this summer.
This loss for Maccabi comes almost two years after another distinguished member of the management, club legend Nikola Vujcic, decided to step down after a decade in the position of sporting director.
