Crvena Zvezda is set to open the 2024/25 season with Round 1 of the ABA League against Dubai this Sunday (22/09).

Before the official start, the club’s president, Nebojsa Covic, held a press conference at Mali Kalemegdan, addressing various topics.

First, he revealed the gross budget for the 2024/25 season.

The gross budget for the players amounts to €14,308,000. We estimate that the total will range between €20-22,000,000 when all club expenses are included,” Covic said.

He also definitively shut down rumors about the potential return of Filip Petrusev and the signing of Nikola Djurisic.

During the season, there could be departures or arrivals, which we currently don’t have planned. With that, I’m putting an end to the soap opera surrounding Petrušev and Đurišić, who is in America. Petrušev is a player for Olympiacos.”

It was reported by some media outlets that Covic spoke about Crvena Zvezda aiming for around 26 victories in the EuroLeague this season.

An attempt at destabilization. At the regular assembly, we deliberately mentioned a desirable score of 26-8 in order to discredit the Zvezda-affiliated portal, because it was published in real-time. The goals are clear: to defend all three trophies—the Serbian Cup, the ABA League, and the Basketball League of Serbia—and to attempt to qualify for the Top 10 in the EuroLeague. We must be realistic and take things step by step, because that’s what it’s all about,” Nebojsa Covic concluded.
