Spanish Marca recently posted an interview with Roger Grimau, where he opened up about his relationship with Willy Hernangomez in Barcelona. The coach reportedly said that during the EuroLeague game against Monaco, the Spanish center told him: “You only have two days left,” using the Spanish expression “telediarios.”
Baskonia’s head coach Pablo Laso, who formerly worked with Hernangomez at Real Madrid, shared his opinion on that situation.
“Quite stupid. I, being a bit sarcastic, would have asked what a ‘telediario’ is. I don’t think the player should get into that,” Laso said, per Marca.
The Vitoria coach also questioned Grimau’s authority.
“For that to happen, the coach shouldn’t allow it either. I’m sure there were things along the way. You don’t just reach situations like that easily. If you get to that point of friction, it’s because you haven’t done your job well. I would never reach a situation like that. Either he goes or I go. In the end, the one who suffers is the organization.”
Willy and Laso coincided at Real Madrid for two seasons. Pablo Laso was the one who gave Hernangomez his debut in the ACB League, as they worked together for two seasons at Real Madrid.
Additionally, the Baskonia coach said that if he could sign any player in the world, “he would bring Tavares.”
“We’re not in the NBA, and if we were, I might sign someone from there. But we are in Europe, in the ACB, and in the EuroLeague. He is the one who knows them.“
