With 11 seconds left in the fourth quarter and Real Madrid trailing Bayern Munich 92 – 89, Facu Campazzo made a 3-point attempt to tie the game, trying to win the foul by Nick Weiler-Babb who was guarding him.

The referees didn’t call a foul and Campazzo fiercely protested the decision. The Argentinian guard had to be restrained by teammate Serge Ibaka as the officials ejected him for his reaction.

According to Real coach Chus Mateo, the referees went on the non-call route simply because they didn’t see the foul.

“I didn’t see the video after the game. Now… I don’t know. This is a situation in the game. The referees did a good job. Probably they didn’t see the foul. For sure they didn’t see this foul and this was the reason they didn’t call it,” Mateo said in the post-game presser.

Despite several absences, including the one of Mario Hezonja, Real was up 10 points near the end of the third period. Bayern came back down the strech to get the victory behind the efforts of Shabazz Napier and Johannes Voigtmann.

“This is one situation in the game. We need to focus on the team and we need to improve our defense a lot in this case and also improve how we manage the game when we are winning by 10,” Mateo added.
