Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Tamir Blatt named EuroLeague opening Round MVP

Round 1 of this year’s Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season is already in the books. Among the winning teams that emerged from the opening game day of the season, Maccabi Tel Aviv was dragged by Tamir Blatt to the home victory – playing in Belgrade – against ASVEL.

The Israeli point guard had an instant impact to begin the 2024-25 EuroLeague season for the yellow-and-blue powerhouse, putting up a double-double of 21 points and 12 assists, and ending with a PIR of 36. Each of those are career-high numbers for the former ALBA Berlin’s playmaker.

“I feel great. It was a great team effort and I’m happy we got the first win. It’s great to play well and I’m happy the guys really helped me to get to my spots. The most important thing is that we got the win and we move forward”, he commented in the post-game flash interview.

As the one with the highest PIR among victorious players, David’s son of art was named MVP of the Round, instantly pushing Oded Kattash’s team. Tamir Blatt perfectly controlled Maccabi Tel Aviv’s tempo, putting up six assists already as the second quarter began.

Moreover, he had an almost perfect shooting night, converting 4/5 from two, 4/4 from deep, and 1/1 at the line. Putting the exclamation mark on the Israeli team’s 89-82 win, in the remaining minutes of the encounter he made Jaylen Hoard fly high throwing up a marvelous alley-oop pass.
