Real Madrid appealed the one-game suspension on Facundo Campazzo.
Euroleague Basketball initially announced the sanctions, ranging from the suspension to a fine of 5,000 euros, on Tuesday.
The decision on the appeal was expected to be made on Thursday before the game versus the Partizan Mozzart Bet in WiZink Center.
However, at the moment Campazzo is eligible to play, as the EuroLeague confirmed with the former press release: “Following the appeal submitted by Real Madrid regarding the sanction imposed on Facundo Campazzo for actions that represent a lack of respect towards the referees during its away game against FC Bayern Munich, the Appeals Judge has granted the provisional measure of the stay of execution of the sanction. As a consequence of the above, Campazzo is authorized to participate in Euroleague Basketball competitions until the appeal is fully resolved”.
Before the announcement, Madrid was preparing to play without him.
“[Andres] Feliz, [Sergio] Llull and [Xavier] Rathan-Mayes can all play point guard, in the event that the appeals are not successful and Campazzo is not able to play tomorrow. I am not going to go into whether it is fair or not. It is what it is and the Euroleague has established that. The only thing we have to do is accept it and learn the lesson. In any case, it is what it is and more than likely we are going to have to play without him,” commented the head coach of the the team based in the capital of Spain, Chus Mateo.
Usman Garuba is questionable
Besides 33-year-old Campazzo, Mateo also updated the status of Usman Garuba. The 22-year-old big has been dealing with leg discomfort.
“It is a long-standing injury. We are going to try to get it sorted out because we need him at his best. He is got some discomfort and we will see if he is available tomorrow or not,” said the Spanish tactician.
Down to 0-1 after the loss to FC Bayern Munich last Thursday, Los Blancos hope to bounce back against Partizan.
