Skylar Mays is heading to Fenerbahce to replace injured Scottie Wilbekin

Scanning the market following a serious injury to Scottie Wilbekin, Fenerbahce Beko is in advanced talks with Skylar Mays and looking to finalize the deal soon, as reported by Eurohoops’ Bugra Uzar on Tuesday.

Mays, 27, will use overseas options for the first time, expanding his career to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.

Over the last four years, he logged 115 games played in the NBA between the Atlanta Hawks, Portland Trail Blazers, and Los Angeles Lakers. He recently signed a contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves but has not made an appearance in the 2024 NBA Preseason.

Wilbekin, 31, suffered a complete tear of f his right anterior cruciate ligament and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season. He was hurt during the first quarter of the EuroLeague opener opposite Olympiacos.

Despite the setback, Fener went up to 2-0 at the top of the new edition of Europe’s premier club continental competition. Preparing for the first two-game week of the season, a home game against Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet in Ulker Sports Arena on Tuesday will be followed by a visit to ALBA Berlin in Uber Arena on Thursday. At the domestic level, a 2-0 record is tied with Anadolu Efes, Mersin Spor, and Tofas on top of the Turkiye Sigorta Basketbol Super Ligi table.

Adding to injury woes for the team coached by Sarunas Jasikevicius, Serbian swingman Marko Guduric was ruled out from the Game 3 contest and is considered questionable for the following Game 4 affair. Also, Yigit Hamza Mestoglu (right knee) is on the injury list alongside Wilbekin.
