Panathinaikos Athens will protest the result of the EuroLeague game against Paris Basketball (a 80 – 84 loss for the Greens), the team’s assistant coach Christos Serelis revealed.

“Yes we have completed the first part of the protest, which is to make a report about it, and we have 90 minutes to support it. It seems that we’ll do it,” Serelis said to the PlayMakers show of Novasports TV channel.

Panathinaikos‘ protest involves a play that took place with 3:42 minutes left in the fourth quarter and Paris up 75 – 68. The referees gave Panathinaikos coach Ergin Ataman a technical foul and then Kendrick Nunn was called with an unsportsmanlike foul.

The claim of Panathinaikos has to do with the fact that there should’ve been a pause in the game between the two calls, something that didn’t happen. The clock continued to run and that’s why Panathinaikos believes that their protest has merit.

During the press conference, Panathinaikos coach Ergin Ataman added speaking about Paris: “Congratulations to Paris. After so many years, this is the first time, I have seen this in the Euroleague. They played a very fast game. They ran with the ball and shot at just 5-6 seconds. And defensively they were very aggressive. I haven’t seen the video and can’t say something about specific plays, but my players have had a lot of complaints. It was something unusual. After so many years, this is the first time I see this in the Euroleague.”

Ataman was asked about clarification and he stated: “I don’t need to say anything more, those who have seen the game understood”.
