The EuroLeague Round 6 clash between the Turkish and Israeli powerhouses will be played in Lithuania

Similar to what happened last year when Sarunas Jasikevicius coached his first game in Fenerbahce against Maccabi Tel Aviv in Panevezys, Lithuania, the EuroLeague has announced the Round 6 encounter between the two teams to be played in Kaunas.

The game, which will be played on October 29 at 20:30 CET, will be officially played in Zalgirio Arena, allowing Zalgiris fans to witness another EuroLeague showdown this season.

According to EuroLeague’s official press release on the matter, “this decision has been taken considering Turkish and Israel government recommendations”, related to the ongoing war in the Middle East.

This is confirmed per Eurohoops sources and it’s not true that Maccabi Tel Aviv did not want to play in Istanbul.

After this turn of events, it’s highly possible that Israeli teams won’t be playing in Turkey this season, both in the EuroLeague and in the EuroCup, and of course, no games are expected to be played in Israel. When facing Turkish teams, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Hapoel Jerusalem, and Hapoel Tel Aviv would likely host games outside of both countries.
