What Zalgiris Kaunas achieved in Round 4 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, on the road in Milano, was miraculous. However, in the words of Olimpia’s head coach Ettore Messina, “it was unacceptable.”
The Italian champions led 64-37 with around 13 minutes remaining, but Zalgiris eventually prevailed in the final moments for an 85-82 victory.
Naturally, Olimpia Milano’s experienced coach was not pleased.
“I think we have to be honest and apologize for this horrible performance in the last 15 minutes of the game,” Messina said.
Milano seemingly had everything under control until the final 10 minutes, when Zalgiris completed the second-biggest comeback in EuroLeague history.
“They [Zalgiris] believed, they kept playing, and what we did was unacceptable at this level. This is it. It’s frankly unacceptable. We just have to apologize, put our heads down, and work,” Messina concluded.
After four rounds, Olimpia Milano is 1-3, while with two road wins in the EuroLeague double week, Zalgiris improved to 3-1.
