Before a domestic game against 7bet-Lietkabelis, Zalgiris officially parted ways with 30-year-old combo guard Tyrone Wallace on Sunday.
The California product, a veteran of 114 appearances in the NBA, joined the Kaunas outfit during the offseason. He was limited to 4.0 points and 1.5 rebounds per contest over two Turkish Airlines Euroleague games before leaving the club for personal reasons.
The team coached by Andrea Trinchieri is actively seeking reinforcements for the backcourt, moving deeper into the 2024-25 schedule.
Coming off two EuroLeague wins in Italy, Zalgiris wrapped up the week with a 73-66 victory versus Lietkabelis in Zalgirio Arena.
Trinchieri was ejected after a second technical foul at the end of the third quarter. His assistant Tautvydas Sabonis, brother of Domantas, took over and guided the team to a 4-1 record in Lithuania’s Betsafe LKL Regular Season.
Behind 7/9 field goals, Laurynas Birutis produced 17 points, including five over the last ten minutes. Sylvain Francisco went for 16 points, eight rebounds, three rebounds, and two steals in 21 minutes. Bryant Dunston was sidelined along with injured Tomas Dimsa (shoulder surgery).
Entering the lineup and debuting with the senior team, 18-year-old big Aleksas Bieliauskas chipped in two points, three rebounds, and one block.
The visitors missed Danielius Lavrinovic and Justin Briggs in Kaunas. Marko Pecarski with 14 points was not enough to prevent the drop to 3-2.
STANDINGS: Zalgiris 4-1, Neptunas 4-1, Rytas 4-1, Uniclub Bet – Juventus 3-2, 7bet-Lietkabelis 3-2, Siauliai – Casino Admiral 3-2…
