Crvena Zvezda won the latest ABA League encounter on the road against Buducnost, but could have suffered unexpected tremendous news as Joel Bolomboy was forced to leave the court helped by his teammates, unable to put his right foot on the ground.
However, as it appears, the 30-year-old center shouldn’t have suffered a serious injury. After undergoing deep medical checks, the former CSKA Moscow and Olympiacos player shouldn’t be out for long.
According to Crvena Zvezda’s official press release on the matter, the player avoided the most severe of scenarios. “Based on the X-ray and MR examination, Joel Bolomboy suffered a hyperextension injury of the right knee with a larger bone bruise without injuries to the meniscus and ligaments”, it says.
Currently, there’s no timetable for the Russian center’s return to the court. “At this moment, the injury does not require operative treatment, but rest and conservative therapy. The prognosis for returning to the field will be announced after the control of the club doctors”, the statement continued.
Joel Bolomboy had started the 2024-25 in the best of ways, being effective especially at the EuroLeague level, where Giannis Sfairopoulos’ red-and-white powerhouse began the campaign on 3-1. He’s currently putting up 12.5 points and 9.2 rebounds per game in Europe.
