Partizan Belgrade guard Carlik Jones sat out the last 6:31 minutes of the close game against Virtus Bologna and coach Zeljko Obradovic revealed kept one of his most important players on the bench.
“I asked Carlik how he was feeling, and he said that he was not well,” Zeljko Obradovic said after the loss. “That was the first information in the corridor after the game. He’ll undergo an MRI tomorrow, we’ll see how it goes.” Jones slipped while driving to the basket, suffering what seemed to be an ankle injury.
Jones had six points until he was hurt. The two teams traded blows for the remainder of the game until Will Clyburn ultimately handed Virtus their first win this season with a tough layup.
Before that play, Frank Ntilikina made a bad pass that led to the steal and Clyburn’s bucket. The French guard also missed the 3-pointer to win the match.
Obradovic didn’t want to focus specifically on what happened in the last minute. “It is important to show the desire, to support and fight. There were also situations when we played well, but people will always look at the last defense and the last offense. We will analyze everything,” said the decorated coach.
