Shabazz Napier receives MVP nod after a brilliant display

Shabazz Napier of FC Bayern Munich is the most valuable player of Round 6 of the 2024-25 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season.

Euroleague Basketball confirmed the latest MVP on Thursday, a few hours before the start of the bottom half of the two-game week.

Napier, 33, tallied 16 points, seven assists, five rebounds, and one steal against Virtus Segafredo Bologna in Unipol Arena on Wednesday. Leading his side to a win with a PIR of 26 was the highest among all players in action on Tuesday and Wednesday, thus delivering his first EuroLeague MVP of the Round award.

Per the press release: “A great individual performance in a winning effort has seen Shabazz Napier of FC Bayern Munich earn Round 6 MVP honors with a PIR of 26, the highest of any player on a winning team.

Napier led Bayern to an 84-87 road win over Virtus Segafredo Bologna. He had 16 points on 3-of-3 two-pointers and 7-of-7 free throws, as well as 5 rebounds, 7 assists, a steal and 7 fouls drawn to get a PIR of 26. Napier went 1 of 7 from downtown but buried the go-ahead three-pointer with 5.0 seconds left to secure Bayern’s first road win of the season. This is Napier’s first EuroLeague MVP of the Round honor in his 46th game in the competition.

The highest PIR of this round belonged to ALBA Berlin’s Justin Bean, whose team registered an 83-92 home loss against Paris Basketball. Bean led ALBA with a career-best 16 points on 6-of-8 two-pointers, 1-of-3 three-pointers and 1-of-1 free throws, in addition to posting a career-high 14 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal, a block and 4 fouls drawn for a PIR of 34 – more than double his previous highest PIR.

Sasha Vezenkov of Olympiacos Piraeus recorded a PIR of 25 in the Reds’ 79-69 home victory over Real Madrid. Vezenkov had a season-high 23 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 fouls drawn.

Juancho Hernangomez of Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens, with a PIR of season-high 24, and Uros Plavsic of Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade, who amassed a PIR of career-best 23, complete the top individual performances in Round 6.

Hernangomez scored 13 points on perfect shooting, going 5 for 5 on two-pointers and 1 for 1 on three-pointers, while he also had 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal. Plavsic posted 16 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 blocks, all of which are career-best marks.

Individual highs: Justin Bean, ALBA, 14 rebounds

Carsen Edwards of Bayern led all scorers with 26 points. He is also the competition’s top scorer at 21.5 points per game.

Justin Bean of ALBA led all rebounders by pulling down 14 in Round 6. Joel Bolomboy of Crvena Zvezda is first in rebounds at 9.0 per night.

Facu Campazzo of Real Madrid was the only player to reach double digits in assists in Round 6, dishing 10. Tamir Blatt of Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv ranks first overall at 9.0 per game.

Four players got 4 steals apiece in Round 6: Juan Nunez of FC Barcelona, Nick Weiler-Babb of Bayern, Kevarrius Hayes of Paris Basketball and Shaq Harrison of LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne. Neal Sako, also of ASVEL, leads the steals standings at 1.8 per night.

Georgios Papagiannis of AS Monaco had 4 blocks in this round, more than anyone else. Khalifa Koumadje of ALBA is the competition’s top shot blocker at 1.8 per game.

Bean (16 points, 14 rebounds) and Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade’s Isaac Bonga (11 points, 10 rebounds) were the only players to register a double-double in Round 6.”
