Ettore Messina blames his team’s “superficiality” after losing to short-handed ALBA Berlin

Milano couldn’t follow on a great winning night against Real Madrid and lost against ALBA Berlin, which missed half their team. Gabriele Procida and Matteo Spagnolo had a big game over their countrymen, with Trevion Williams contributing to keeping the red-and-white site in 13th place.

Ettore Messina showed once more his disappointment in the aftermath.

“We did exactly what we shouldn’t have done. We played terrible defense and turned it over, which is obviously the reason why we lost. We’ve been superficial, we wasted our nice game last week with Real Madrid and two weeks ago’s game with Virtus Bologna with a terrible second half”, Milano’s head coach commented.

Later on, he was asked when he found out that ALBA would have been short-handed. “When we got here”, he replied.

“The way we played the crucial moments, it surely had an impact because we thought that being up by 13 was easy to handle”, he added.

“It’s never easy to handle, especially when you play with a team that had nothing to lose, has remaining players who play with talent, desire. The superficiality we showed in the second half was honestly very difficult to accept”, Ettore Messina continued.

The Italian head coach also reflected on how his team keeps on disappointing in several aspects.

“At this point, we have to accept the idea that we are very superficial. Especially in some players that we thought could play a major role in this team. All our disasters are always being careless on offense and extremely mediocre defensively, in all the games we’ve lost. We need to keep being demanding”, he concluded
