Chimezie Metu will be sidelined for six to eight weeks with a moderate sprain in the MCL of his left knee.

FC Barcelona officially projected the recovery timeline on Monday, a few hours after his injury in Round 8 of Spain’s Liga Endesa Regular Season.

Per the press release: “Tests carried out by the FC Barcelona Medical Services show that the player Chimezie Metu has suffered a grade 2 sprain of the medial collateral ligament in his left knee. The player will follow a conservative plan of treatment and will be out of action for six to eight weeks.

13 games left in 2024

The Barça power forward picked up the injury in Sunday’s 102-99 win over Valencia Basket at the Palau. In the battle for a rebound, Valencia’s Reuvers fell and inadvertently caused Metu’s knee to twist and the Barça player is expected to miss the 13 games remaining in 2024.

Chimezie Metu has had an excellent start to his career as a Blaugrana, averaging 7.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and a 7.2 valuation in the Euroleague and 11.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 11.8 valuation in the league. His injury comes after teammate Nico Laprovittola was also ruled out long term after being injured in a game against Baskonia in the Endesa League.”

The veteran of 263 NBA games, a former University of Southern California standout, moved his talents to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and ACB, joining the team coached by Joan Penarroya during the offseason.
