Sasa Obradovic is officially the first coach to be sacked in the 2024-25 EuroLeague season

AS Monaco is firing head coach Sasa Obradovic, Meridian Sport reported, and the club later officially confirmed. The French side’s decision comes in the aftermath of Sunday’s (17/11) French League home loss to Le Mans, which dropped the team to 6-3.

Monaco assistant coach Manu Markoishvili is named interim head coach.

Obradovic‘s position had already been in jeopardy following Monaco’s EuroLeague defeat at home to Crvena Zvezda last week, despite the away win at Baskonia two days later. The team is currently 6-4 in the EuroLeague while coping with injury problems since wing Furkan Korkmaz has played in only two games and star guard Nick Calathes has yet to make his season debut.

Meridian reports that Monaco’s record so far in the EuroLeague and the French League is considered “not in line with the club’s ambitions” and this is why the management took the decision to part ways with Obradovic after three years.

Under Obradovic, Monaco won the French championship titles of 2023 and 2024 while making the 2023 EuroLeague Final Four, a first-time achievement for the organization that debuted in the competition in 2021.

Per Monaco’s press release: “Sasa Obradovic’s name is forever inscribed in the history of the Roca Team. The leaders and staff of the Roca Team sincerely thank him for the work accomplished”.
